In 2017 I had the privilege of taking my debut storytelling show Humpty Dumpty Daddy to Adelaide Fringe, and absolutely loved the experience. The following year, I took Loves Me / Loves Me Not to Fringe, and again had an absolute ball.
Both years and shows involved sharing some stories about growing up as a kid, and growing up as a person.
It was really heartwarming to share some personal anecdotes, jokes, and raw honesty with people of all walks of life. Doing those shows at festivals and theatres around Australia from 2016-2019 really helped me cathartically and professionally.
And then, as the world hit pause for a couple of years, my creativity and desire for the stage was similarly paused. Like many, making it through that time was enough of a challenge.
In the years since, the ingredients of a third show have been sitting in the trolley above my shoulders, waiting for some Surprise Chef type of magic, to be brought together and turned into that next show.
That moment has come… my Aristos is Brenda Spilva – the performer/producer/director extraordinairre behind regional Victoria’s Limelight Touring Company.
With the support and encouragement of Brenda and the Limelight team, I am delighted to be taking my new storytelling show, Joely Poley, Puddin’ & Pie to Adelaide Fringe!
This new show is me and a microphone, and 50 minutes of heartwarming honesty and humour about identity – the roles we’re given in life, the roles we choose, the roles we lose, and the roles we create for ourselves.
I can’t wait to share this with audiences in Adelaide this March, and others throughout the course of this year (and maybe next?).
I’d love to see you there and say g’day 🙂
